The Logan City Community Development Department is a "one stop shop" for most permits or licenses within the City boundaries. We issue building permits, business licenses, landlord licenses, planning & zoning permits, and special events licenses. Our mission is to enhance and preserve the quality of life of Logan citizens. We make daily decisions reflective of this goal. We follow the guidelines set forth in the Logan Municipal Code, General Plan, Building Code, and Land Development Code. Following these guidelines not only allows us to better serve the citizens of Logan, and also ensure the safety of residents and consumers.
WHAT DO I NEED FOR A PERMIT?
Generally, most types of construction projects, including but not limited to, new construction, use changes, remodeling project, new electrical upgrades, etc., require Building Permits. New projects involving new construction or renovation work, site development, road access, new signs, establishment of new uses, etc., generally need a Design Review Permit prior to initiating any activity. If you want to open up a new business, whether in a commercial store front or in your home, a Business License is necessary. Other permits may also be needed to start a business. Other miscellaneous projects or activities such as: building a new deck, installing a new fence, a new driveway, door to door sales, or owning rental properties usually require some type of review, permit, or license. Permits are also required when working in the public right-of-way or when disturbing ground for any type of development. Any land disturbing on private property due to development of any parcel or disturbance greater than one acre of land requires a Land Disturbance Permit. Any person performing work of any kind in a public way within the City must obtain a Right-of-Way Permit. If you are unsure whether or not you need a permit, feel free to contact the Community Development Department at (435)-716-9000 or in the office located at 290 North 100 West, Logan UT 84321.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET A PERMIT?
The time frame for permits and licenses varies by type. Some simple permits can be issued over the counter in the Community Development Department of Logan City Hall. Others can take anywhere from two weeks to two months to process depending on the type and size of the project. We recommend meeting with staff to prepare for your project and application submittal.
